On the 5th January (Thursday) I was as usual riding on my motorbike towards my clinic. It was a road sloping downward, there was BBMP work going on and there was sand spread all over the road. I am sure that I was slowing down when I saw a speedbreaker I pressed on my breaks ….
Zoo…m on the ground was me and my bike . I had fallen on the road with outstretched hand and was not able get up on my own. People around rushed and lifted me. I realised that I was not able to move my right arm. I was in great pain, sweating with nausea. I thought it could be a shoulder dislocation.
“ a man from the house opposite rushed towards me and gave a chair for me to sit and water to drink. He called a guy who was on the first floor, he came saw me and introduced himself as a duty doctor in a nursing home and offered help. I told him that I need sling for my arm. He brought a cloth from his house and helped me tie the arm sling. I walked to a near by diagnostic center to have a x-ray done. The diagnostic centre was well known to me and they helped me and also called a visiting orthopedicist.
Worst was not over….
The x-ray was showing 3 pieces of my upper arm bone. And he suggested immediate surgery. The words used by the attending doctor was “Unlucky to have this……” as he explained the pros and cons of surgery.
It took time to accept the reality and started mentally preparing for it.
I asked the ortho doctor can i swim, do photographing…. J all my passions.
He told that if I do the exercises then the rehabilitation would be better or I may landup with a frozen shoulder (stiffness of shoulder).
I took an auto came stright to a hospital near my house, wanting to show to a doctor known to me personally. It was lucky to get him immediately at an unexpected time and we had a consultation.
What is the problem?
Medical terminology says “ three part fracture of proximal humerus” means that upper arm shoulder bone is broken in to three pieces at the upper end.
The broken pieces were not displaced and that was important .
The doctor gave option of conservative treatment as the pieces were in place. I was to give arm rest for a week and get a follow up x-ray a week later to assess the position of the bone pieces. If the disposition is more than 1 cms or particular angle than I may need surgery other wise not. I need to go for a review on 12th then I will know if I am lucky … or unlucky.
I feel and belive that I am always lucky…..
· Fell in front of a house where a doctor was residing and got sling for the arm support which is very very important for this condition.
· Initial medical assessment was done in very near and known place and got orthopedicist on time.
· Again at home got doctor immediately. More than that I got a better option.
· My fracture is intact and not displaced and no blood vessel or nerve injury.
· I have a stronge support at home and well wishes of my patients who call me up.
Now resting at home browzing, reading …. Now trying to blog with left hand training my right Brain
But realy I needed a rest but not this kind.

To day went for the follow up and took an repeat X-ray to see the fracture is in position. Lucky….
